Here's my honest take, and yes, I'm completely biased — but hear me out. You can spend as much or as little on any of your wedding vendors as you want to. The most important thing is what's important to you. If you have an $11,000 budget and you want to wear a $10,000 dress, do it. Figure the rest out.

That said: photography and videography are the one thing you actually get to take home and keep forever. Odds are you're never going to wear your dress again. You may enjoy a freezer-burned piece of cake on your one-year anniversary. You don't get to take up residence inside your wedding venue. But your wedding photos — especially when you have a beautiful printed album or artwork on your walls — are something you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Just something worth thinking about when you're building that budget.

I generally recommend couples book 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for peak season dates (May through October). The most sought-after dates fill up quickly, and I take on a limited number of weddings each year to make sure every couple receives my full attention. If your date is in peak season, reaching out sooner rather than later is always the right call.

I don't guarantee a specific number of photos, because I'm not trying to shoot toward a target — I'm trying to document the day authentically and creatively. The number of images you receive depends entirely on the flow of your day. That said, I do my best to deliver between 50 and 100 photos per hour of coverage, so a full wedding day typically results in a substantial, complete gallery.

I try to deliver a wedding preview — a curated selection of your favorite moments — within 48 hours of your wedding. That way you have something beautiful to share right away while the day is still fresh. Your full gallery is delivered within 12 weeks.

It's one of my favorite parts of the whole process, and it means you end up with something you'll actually display, not just a digital gallery that lives on your phone.

Every wedding package covers from the end of hair and makeup through 10pm — or the end of the event, whichever comes first. I designed coverage this way intentionally: I work with every couple to build a photography timeline that lets me document the entire day while also giving you room to breathe, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the party without worrying about running out of coverage. The last hour of a wedding is often the best one, and I'm always there for it.

My wife Leslie is most often my second shooter — which means you get someone who genuinely cares about your day, not just a hired hand. I do work with other trusted second shooters from time to time as well. I also offer solo coverage for couples where that works better for their budget. Either way, we'll talk through what makes the most sense for your specific day during the planning process.

We roll with it. I tell all my couples: I give you permission to worry about your wedding day until 7pm the night before. After that, that bowling ball is rolling down the alley and there's nothing any of us can do to stop it — so let go and enjoy it.

If it rains, think about all the beautiful rain shots and umbrella photos we can create. Think about the cozy, intimate atmosphere an indoor ceremony provides. If it's sunny, that creates a completely different set of opportunities. Every type of weather produces beautiful images when you're working with someone who knows how to use it.
